People you should know: Anele Mdoda

Unless you have been living under a rock its hard to miss the dynamo that is Anele Mdoda. Full time Beyonce stan, drive time radio host , occasional TV presenter and inspiration to all Smart Hot Girls, she is making moves everywhere. The soon to be published author took some time out of her busy schedule to answer some Jucy questions. After the jump see how she handles celebrity, her advice to those wanting to follow in her footsteps and why she is so passionate about giving back.

How would you introduce yourself to someone who never met you?

Hey whats up, I am Anele :)

What are your thoughts on the celeb scene is SA?

You know I have followed ins and outs of Hollywood and the difference is not the exposure but how long they build you before they break you down, it is the same everywhere celebs are built by the same people who break them down. The SA scene is growing at a rapid pace and I want to get to a place where Magazines are paying bucks to get pictures of our own celebs but that also means that celebs must be scarce. Otherwise it is a good time to be a celeb in SA :endorsements and Magazine covers, I say hooorah !!!

Do you think of yourself as a celebrity?

I think I am well known and carry a profile that I then play with, I also know that because I have managed that whole crossover vibe that puts me in a better light, I struggle to call myself a celeb but I think I tick all the boxes so yes, I am celebrated.

We only ever get to see the glam parts of your job, are there any downsides to being as awesome as you are?

TV brought glam into my life, radio is not glamourous at ALL !!! You work forever before you are recognized but the up side is that the longer you work the longer you will stay at the top. Being busy is great and fun but when you start missing family functions, friends weddings and partners what nots then it is no longer glam.

What advice do you have for young women who want to follow in your footsteps?

That being smart is the new sexy, that reading sets you apart and that there is no need to chase being famous, chase being great at what you do then the fame will come.

You are the first female host of a drive time show on a commercial station in South Africa, do you feel like you are making history?

Azania did breakfast a few years back, Dineo did so at YFM so I am not making history per se but I am the first to be head hunted from 5fm and the first female drive show host in the Primedia stable which is the most financially successful broadcasting company in the country so do I feel like I am making history, HELL YES ! And I shall continue.

Is it weird being solo after having been on air with Grant for so many years?

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO freaken weird but wonderful all at once, I love Grant and he loves me, we talk all the time, not the same but I get my doses and he is off soon, that is going to be hard for me.

Any misconceptions or rumours about you that you want to clear up?

Ha ha ha no, rumors keep you relevant, let them speak.

Being on Twitter gives people instant access to you, how do you deal with people who cross the line?

If you come at me with nonsense you will be dealt with swiftly, I have no time for bullies.

You seem to work around the clock, where do you find the time to watch all the TV you tweet about?

I have PVR and I am not much of a sleeper but when I sleep I crash, but like I say PVR cuts out the stuff you do not need to watch but do cause you are waiting on your show.

Have you though about what you will say to Beyonce if/when you meet her face to face?

Ha ha ha ha ha I am on my way to the concert next week and I will behave promise :)

You have already achieved a lot in media, what are your next goals?

It is no secret that I want a talk show but it is all about finding the right person to make it come true with and to know that it itself will not be all glam because I plan to be a part of every process just not camera work, I would not know where to switch those things on.

You are quite passionate about charity and giving back, what motivates you to help others?

My mom was a giving person and it was just always in us, if you are not using it give it away, simple .So to me that now applies with material possessions, money and most importantly TIME !
