Two months after releasing his Africa Rising DVD, Black Coffee, one of the biggest household names in House Music globally decided to celebrate his achievement at the Emoyeni Estate in Parktown last night. The DVD which is a first of its kind, was shot last year in December at the Moses Mabida Stadium featuring a 24 piece Orchestra. It had been a dream to do such a project, with many doubting Thomas’ laughing him off. Today that dream is a reality and coincidentally the DVD has reached Gold Status here at home.
The brains behind the project, Glenn Van Loggerenberg & Black Coffee
Part of the celebration was the release of a 3 disc audio album also called Africa Rising. The first two discs were recorded live at the same concert and features the likes of Shana, Zakes Bantwini and Bucie . The third disc was recorded across the world and he worked with Nathan Adams, Tortured Soul, Black Motion and Nomsa Mazwai just to mention a few.
Singer, Tumelo
The MC of the event was none other than the proud wife, Entle Mbali Mlotshwa-Maphumulo, a wife who had nothing but praise for her man. The ambience was perfect for a venue overlooking the city skyline with the likes of Rosie Motene, Culoe De Song and the fashionably late Kelly Khumalo gracing the event. We viewed highlights of the DVD after short speeches were made by the man of the hour and his business partner, Glenn Van Loggerenberg. With House Music in the background, an open bar and chops to nibble on, this was an awesome way to celebrate a project of this magnitude. Here are some of the peeps I bumped into:
DJ Switch
Rosie Motene
YFM’s, DJ Shimza
Musician, Nandi Mngoma who presented Club 808 last Friday
Shana and Culoe De Song
Sarah Setlaelo, Kelly Khumalo who drinks strictly Oros and younger sister, Zandi Khumalo
Mbali Mlotshwa-Maphumulo with Head of Youth Channels at Mnet, Solly Moeng
BFF’s Vannessa, Fezokuhle & Tumi Voster
