Arts Alive International Festival was launched on the 8th of August in Johannesburg. Arts Alive is an annual event, that aims at drawing residents from all the city’s areas into a welcome spring celebration. Two young seasoned and very talented actors, Atandwa Kani who calls himself ‘The Prince Of Theatre’ and Nat Ramabulana who is known as ‘The Venda’ are part of this phenomenal event, in their stage play Hayani. Hayani means home in Venda. This play is accomplished and reflects on the meaning of home in South Africa. ‘The play delves into the story of two unique South Africans to reveal a complex, honest and poignant journey towards understanding themselves as South Africans and what it means to be such. These two talented Wits University Drama graduates are known to South African audiences for their captivating theater and film performances.
Atandwa is currently starring in the new Savanna advert, he has featured in the British drama, Wild At Heart, Soul Buddyz and on Tooth and Nails the musical. Ramabulana is no stranger to tv as well. He has featured on SABC 2 comedy Askies, The Wild, Isidingo,Home Affairs, Tooth and Nails. He has also acted on the film Blood Diamond and currently plays William on Rhythm City. Hayani is on from the 6th-8th September at the Museum Africa in Newtown, Johannesburg. For all those passionate about the arts and development of our very own productions, go and catch this play.
