I’ve just discovered the most amazing brand, and it’s not only because Tyson Beckford models for them on the regular. Momo,t he Nigerian fashion house has got models like Alek Wek and Liya Kabede working the ramp for them at international events, but this is certainly not the only reason they get noticed.
Momo, which started in 2000 is an acronym for Muses of Modern Origin (how fabulous?!). It was initially a fabric boutique specializing in textiles with an African influence, but soon developed into a fashion house owing to the founder Fati Asibelua’s long time aspirations.
What’s so great about Momo is that their beliefs in elegance and timeless class can be seen through and through on the catwalk. Their background in textile design has only added to their flair, resulting in not only uber sexy designs but amazing fabrics as well. What we see seasons again with Momo’s collections are beautiful lines, whether flowing or strong. Momo is also known for its embodiment of the female form, whatever dress you are wearing with frills or without you will be the lady of the evening!
Paris Fashion Week also saw Momo’s designs thanks to Arise Magazine who teamed up with the French Federation in asking a couple of Africa’s top designers to grace the ramps with their collections.
I’m Jade. Each week I’ll be showcasing the best that African fashion has to offer.
Yours in the journey through African fashion.
