Judging by the swathes of bare skin on display summer has definitely arrived. Looking at the weather forecast this weekend tells another story completely. Sadly this story involves high winds, overcast weather and occasional showers. So no sipping of cocktails on beachfront cafes with sea views, or concert picnics at Kirstenbosch. Which begs the question of what to do in inclement weather? Like any artful lady the Mother City has a few tricks up her sleeve when it comes to rainy day entertainment. In no particular order here is a list of suggestions to keep you busy till the sun comes out of hiding.
The first one is a museum! Before your eyeballs roll too far back in your sockets its worth noting that the exhibition I have in mind is very contemporary. Its called Imagining Beauty and showcases the collections of Mercedes Benz Fashion winners. Fresh off a grand tour in Berlin this exhibition showcases sculptural pieces by Maya Prass, David Tlale, Black Coffee, Darkie and many more.
If delicious decadence is more your style then the Lindt Chocolate studio is right up your alley. Located in the Waterkant area they offer various courses from simple cake decoration to the more elaborate showpiece creation class. If all that sounds like too much effort then they also have a chocolate appreciation course which consists of tasting the different varieties of chocolate.
All those calories ingested will need to be worked off quite quickly. A fun way to stay in shape is climbing indoors at City rock in Observatory. Let loose your inner spider on their indoor climbing walls or scramble abound large artificial rocks with bouldering. This activity is suitable for children from as young as 5 and the centre also offers yoga lessons.
Since all roads to Cape Town seem to lead to a glass of wine then do it with a twist. Societi Bistro in Gardens offers a chefs table. Seating between 8 and 12 people in the kitchen giving you a birds eye view of all the action.in the kitchen. Pair that with any of the magnificent wines from their cellar and thats enough to chase the weather blues away.
