George based music teacher, Elvis Blue walked away with the Idols prize last night after he beat fellow contestant and new friend Lloyd Cele. It was a moving affair with both the men being loved by the crowd although if judgement was based on last night’s screaming of the crowed within the Moseik arena, Lloyd should have won. With the voting lines being closed already by Sunday night, their outstanding performances did not have an impact on the results.
The spectacular evening gave those contestants who made it to the top10 the opportunity to grace the stage with some of the celebrity judges that have been on the show. The likes of Steve Hofmeyer, Loyiso Bala and HHP got to perform with crowd favourites like Peter West, Sindi Nene, Boki, Adelene and the ever energetic Bongi Mthombeni. I wondered who’d given Bongi a handful of sweets on the night, he could not stop himself from jumping around or maybe he celebrated Halloween on the wrong night?…too much candy is known to do that.
2010 Idols SA Runner-up Lloyd Cele
The show presenter had everyone on the edge of their seats when the winner was about to be announced. He mentioned that he would be back to present next year’s season of Idols 7, a job he very much adores despite the engine explosion this past Sunday before another Idols country tour. One thing that crossed my mind is if the same judges will be brought back, like them or not. The often drunk sounding Mara Louw and the depressed looking Randal Abrahams are very much adored by the show’s fans despite the little vodka/redbull incident and the booing of them on the show. It remains to be seen if they will be dissing next year’s hopefuls, yes another season kicks off in February next year and Mnet has given other provinces the opportunity to host auditions by voting on the Idols facebook page.

There was great delight on Elvis’s face during the press conference but the disappointment on Lloyd’s was understandably visible. Can you imagine your dream shuttered and moments later having to face the world? He still managed to put an odd smile and off course R250 000 after the gentleman’s agreement he and Elvis had to share the prize money. Elvis walked away with a brand new Ford Figo, a record deal from Universal music and other prizes from the show’s sponsors. Nothing could be said about the meet and great session they had after the show, all I know is that I have discovered the kind of sushi I like and that I am a cookie monster. *waves at Gareth Cliff*
